Inspired by the original Chinese checkers, contemporary artisans KC and PAK breathe new life into the craftsmanship of this nostalgic board game with an innovative fabrication process. The work is created to remind people of the simple joy of board games.
The compact design of the Chinese checkers is a contemporary approach to the classic board game, elegantly self-contained with clean lines and subtle geometry. Juxtaposing digital fabrication with hand craft techniques, KC and PAK reinterpret the work with a modern twist to bring back this light strategy game as a worthy choice of offline pastime.
The marbles are always stored in their starting position, effortlessly set up for the players. The player’s boards can be individually attached to form smaller boards when fewer players are involved. Magnets embedded in the edges allow quick and easy attachment.
Utilizing digital fabrication allows the artisans to achieve a level of precision and detailed construction previously unattainable, resulting in more exquisite craftsmanship.
