Moonlight Gardenia
Chen Yung Sheng
This bamboo flower vessel was created when Chen was studying in Japan. During the Azuchi-Momoyama period and the Ming dynasty, tea master Sen no Rikyū incorporated bamboo baskets into tea ceremony, which later became an indispensable object of the ritual. At the end of the Edo period, bamboo baskets were widely produced based on the aesthetic concepts of scholars, with unified and harmonious lines, colors, shape and texture.
