“Mahjong Wanderlust” reinterprets the traditional mahjong tiles with contemporary design aiming to preserve our intangible cultural heritage. From design, illustration, hand-carving, and laser engraving to coloring by hand, the whole making process usually takes almost one year to complete.
The work is a collaboration amongst hand-carved mahjong craftsman Master Ricky Cheung, illustrator Karen Aruba, and photographer Andypoll Chan. The team combines elements from different disciplines: carving, illustration and photography to enhance the aesthetics of traditional mahjong craft.
