The hexagonal chrysanthemum pattern coaster not only shows the meticulous art of bamboo crafting, but also represents the artisan’s blessings of longevity and luck through the process of weaving.
Making Process
The process can be divided into material preparation and weaving, and bamboo weaving comes in three steps: base weaving, frame binding and rim finishing. The bottom is woven by a layer of hexagonal pattern and another layer of hexagonal chrysanthemum pattern on top. The surfaces have different colors and textures through layering, which strengthens the structure as a whole. The feet of the coaster are hand-carved into the main structure, creating an elevation to keep moisture out.
