This exhibition showcases crafts and traditions across regional boundaries and generations, representing the essence of Hong Kong as a melting pot of cbrant cultures. Crafts on Peel brings together international and Hong Kong artisans to collaborate and co-create works in various mediums and forms, fostering creative dialogue and cultural connections between regions and within our craft community.

Crafts on Peel and HKETO Lingnan Penjing Demonstration

Watch traditional Lingnan penjing master Wong Chau Shing guide you through the essential steps in narrating a story through pending art. Master Wong Chau Shing is a traditional Lingnan penjing Master with over sixty years of expertise in the field. In this craft demonstration, Master Wong showcases a variety of techniques, such as pruning and embellishing, essential for crafting Lingnan penjing, a bonsai art that originated in the southern part of China. In addition to the technical aspect of penjing art, he shares his thoughts on the story-telling aspect of craft creation.

Crafts on Peel and HKETO panel discussion

After Master Wong’s craft demonstration, his daughter and contemporary Lingnan penjing artisan Kammy Wong, along with Hong Kong contemporary coppersmith Crystal Lieu, joins the creative director and curator of Crafts on Peel, Penelope Luk, in a panel discussion on combining traditions and innovations in their work. They explore the way contemporary crafting practices, drawing insights from art, design, and related disciplines, revive and perpetuate traditional craft.
