The rattan suitcase is an essential item for traveling. It has been a testimony to the history of craftsmanship and a carrier for cultural exchange in many places. In the 1950s, a large number of Chinese migrated from the mainland to Hong Kong with hand-carried luggage of a similar style. Among them were the rattan weavers who became rooted in Hong Kong, allowing the rattan industry to take off in the era of the light industry, during which various classic styles were created and sold overseas. Using the traditional rattan weaving technique, “Somewhere in Time” is recalling history and embracing the changes of today. The iconic mosaic tile pattern of the lining expresses the nostalgia towards Hong Kong in the second half of the 20th century.
