Being Together (Sun & Moon)

Vivian Law, Justin Chan and Ken Chow

“The most peaceful companionship is when ‘you’ and ‘I’ are together.”

This pair of carved black walnut nightstands was constructed by Ken Chow, through mortise and tenon, while the sun and moon scenes on the drawer panels were hand-carved in relief by Vivian Law and Justin Chan. The hand-carved patterns are exquisite and elegant, full of movement and vitality, highlighting the unique craftsmanship.

The design cleverly takes into account the dimmed light of the bedroom where the work is placed. The slope of the carved lines interacts with the soft light to reveal the contrast of light and shadow. Through this work, three contemporary artisans hope to bring out that “being together” transcends distance and space; no matter where we are, we connect with each other and share the same feelings.
