Teppachi Morikago
Tamotsu Nishimoto
Teppachi Morikago is a traditional fruit basket from Beppu, combining functionality with art. The design originated from Japan’s late “National Treasure” artisan Ikuno Shounsai. Due to the similarity in shape, the craftwork was named after the bowls used by monks when they receive food or money.
The trio comes in three sizes, all woven according to precise standards. With a circular plaited base, bamboo strips are woven to press against each other with a gap in the middle. The bottom of the tray has a simple hexagonal pattern, Nishimoto has intentionally left vacant spaces to create defined and concise contours.
